as designers, we sort of live in a fantasy world all our own. we see things differently than “normal” people. we go to work dressed in anything we please, we yell obscene statements at each other, and we eat/fight with odd food. we’re sort of the immature kids of professional society. with that being said, it’s hard to imagine one of these people becoming a business person and actually taking care of themselves as a living, breathing, human adult, but it happens. and now it is happening for another designer (me) as another design studio officially comes into this thing we call life.
i’ve been working under the name onetwentysix for a long time now; constantly changing partners, freelancers, outsourcers, etc but i’ve never been able to get to the point where i could confidently open a studio. now, after many years and many long hours, i can finally say this day is here. on sunday we move into our first office, monday we have our phone lines set up, and tuesday we go full time. it’s pretty exciting to be able to take this journey into design and business and i look forward to it.
along the way, i’ll be documenting how things are going. you’ll be able to watch the progression of a studio from almost nothing into something amazing (i hope). so stay tuned and keep an eye on this page. i’m going to try and stay up to date on all the major happenings at onetwentysix.
the guys at setyoursite.com are in the middle of creating a great new web application and i have the pleasure of reskinning/redesigning their original design. we also started development in the identity for the application as well and you can see a little bit of that in this screenshot. i can’t show much more, so here’s a little sneak peak at the development:
i was invited to take part in faesthetic, issue number six for the end of 2006. if you aren’t aware, faesthetic is a magazine that is based upon work contributed by fine artists, illustrators, and designers. the theme of the issue is “love and hate” and i paired up with my man john (aka abe lincoln jr.) from girlsbike.com to come up with a crazy two-page spread. we decided on working with the theme in a musical/social sense and compared punks with hippies. the end result was great, but i can’t show that off yet. what i can show off is some of the preliminary sketches i did in preparation for the project.
this was a quick site i threw together for a medical solutions company. they wanted to go with a very refreshing “web 2.0″ look and feel.
i finally finished the her chance to dream cd layout last week. check out the final product.
