smashing magazine (an insanely inspirational design resource for those who may not know) has just published an article about the lost art of handwriting and lettering. it covers everything from classical calligraphy to modern day typographic-based comic illustrations and does not disappoint in any of the categories. do yourself a favor and check it out. i know that anyone who reads this site will have an instant infatuation with almost every piece it features.
funny side note: a friend linked me to this article earlier today and pointed out the fact that they mention me and one of my latest brooklyn circus type treatments. nice!

the brand new winter line from casualty dropped tonight and it’s definitely great to finally see it finished and ready to ship. everyone (at casualty and at onetwentysix) worked really hard on this line and we’re all very proud of how it turned out. please check out the look book, the blog, and the store to get your hands on some of my most favorite apparel designs i’ve ever done and also a bunch of other awesome designs that i’m proud to share the stage with.

yep, i already got another. this time the wonderful jk5 hooked me up with his amazingly over-flourished script. (be sure to check out his site, he does some absolutely incredible work. you can’t miss it.)
the lettering reads “vcnc” which is the first initial of each of my parents and my two brothers. much debate, i decided to stick to black and grey again for this one. i can’t seem to settle on any colors, maybe next time. a few more photos after the jump.

recently i was interviewed by the fine folks over at unión de los tipógrafos, a latin site/blog/zine dedicated to typography. unfortunately, you might have a hard time reading it if you can’t read spanish, but it’s pretty awesome nonetheless!

well it’s that time of the year again. i’ve redesigned the layout for the summer. i may have a new print for sale soon and, of course, a million typographic drawings. what else would you expect?!
actually, i plan on adding some more dynamic content to the blog. inspiring links, maybe some music and/or videos. just the good stuff…the really good stuff. i’ve also opened up commenting, so now we can start a dialogue here people.

since i have opened up a design studio full time, i don’t have much need for a personal portfolio anymore. instead, i’ve focused my attention on the illustrations and experiments contained within my sketchbook. all of the works pull directly from my flickr page since that seems to be the most convenient for me these days. www.joncontino.com!
